General

Check in time: from 3pm

Check out time: by 10am

Unfortunately, not. Pilchard Cottage is a very busy holiday cottage and usually we have guests checking in and out on the same day.

We complete thorough cleans and maintenance during each changeover to ensure every guest has a clean environment to enjoy, as you might imagine this takes us several hours to complete. If we happen to finish cleaning a little earlier than 3pm we will send a text inviting guests to let themselves in early if they wish.

Five people can stay at Pilchard Cottage.

If you are travelling to Dawlish by car, there are free and unrestricted parking spaces outside Pilchard Cottage, however due to the proximity of the cottage to the shops and the beach, these spaces are usually very popular! If there aren’t any spaces outside the cottage when you arrive, we would recommend temporarily parking in one of the free one-hour spaces on Park Road (less than 1 minute walk), to unload your car.

We offer our guests complimentary use of our parking permit (for one car) for the local long stay car park (Barton Hill, EX7 9QF), to use free of charge for the duration of their stay. The permit also allows you to park for free at two of the car parks in Dawlish Warren.

We will try our best to accommodate your luggage at Pilchard Cottage before 3pm on the day you check in, please let us know in advance what time you would like to leave your luggage, and we will do our best to help.

Unfortunately, we cannot take care of luggage after 10am on the day of your check out.

Please refer to the terms and conditions in our contract. We highly recommend that you take out holiday insurance to protect the cost of your holiday, when making your booking.

No, Pilchard Cottage is located within a residential area so please respect the neighbours.

The courtyard is an enclosed space accessible only through the house. The fence / walls of the courtyard are a minimum of 6ft tall.

The courtyard is mostly paved with a small strip of gravel alongside the rear of the house.

There is a log store, bins, a warm water dog shower, and potted plants including; lavender, jasmine, clematis and passionflowers.

There is also a metal garden dining set with four chairs and a parasol, a fifth folding chair is kept in the wardrobe upstairs. A wall mounted clothes airer is attached to the wall.

Yes, safety is very important to us, therefore we have placed a grab handles or rails by the following steps:

  • The step into the lounge
  • The step into the dining room
  • The step leading into the courtyard
  • The step(s) leading into the two bedrooms from the landing
  • To assist stepping into the bath
  • By the shower (over the bath)

There are also rails on both sides of the staircase

Pilchard Cottage is a 200+ year old cottage, with a few level changes including a step into the lounge and dining room and a staircase to access the bedrooms. The bathroom is located on the ground floor just off the kitchen.

We have gone to great efforts to increase safety within Pilchard Cottage, however it is probably not a suitable environment for people with significant mobility issues.

If you need more information or a walk around video tour, please feel free to ask, we would be more than happy to provide you with all the information you need to make the right decision for your needs.

We always leave a selection of different thickness duvets in the wardrobes for guest use. If you would prefer a certain thickness duvet, please let us know ahead of your stay so that we can make up the beds to your preference.

No, we don’t charge extra for dogs.

I’m afraid not, as per the terms of our insurance policy dogs cannot be left unattended on the property. The courtyard can become very hot and so dogs must be supervised when using it at all times.

We certainly do! A hamper is left for each dog for use during their stay; towels, a couple of spare extra long leads, poo bags, dog bowls, a silicone dog bowl mat and a bag of Devon-made dog treats.

We don’t place any restrictions on where dogs can and can’t go in the house, we only ask that the throws provided are used to protect the bedding and furniture.
